I am trying to copy a networked FP5 PC database to another computer to do some analysis work. I use 'fmserver stop' to shutdown the system, make sure that all users are out of the application and then copy the entire data folder to a CD.
When I copy the CD on my second computer (running the same version of FMP), I can run the app just fine. However there are fewer records in several of the files. It appears that the missing records are at the upper end of the ID sequences for several .fp5 files. The odd thing is that some of them were entered in January and in another, less frequently updated file they were entered in June!
I suspect corruption since the counter often gives 'goofy' counts like '34,567 of 967 found' on the original database.
Another clue might be the warning that occurs when I burn to CD: "The file [filename] has extra information attached to it that might be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected." I click OK and the copy proceeds with now errors.
This data started on a Mac network and was ported to PC a couple of years ago.
Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks very much!
