Missing "routing slip" features we used to have in Exchange 1

We've been on R5 Notes for a year now (some users for 3 years), and I'm often asked what Notes has as an equivalent to the "routing slip" concept that was in our old MS Exchange. That is, a user wants to start a message, add a bunch of names to it, and have the message go to each mailbox in sequence, allowing changes to be made to the document during each stage of transit. The users were also accustomed to creating the routing slip from the "Send To" features of MS Office products, and they would like that back as well.

I've found nothing on the subject after several hours, and am beginning to believe Lotus never built such a useful tool. Am I right? If so, is there such a tool in R6 or does anyone know a good work around?

What you're describing sounds lke the Ms version of a Notes document database! If the purpose of this is to discuss a particular topic or to have successive reports o a project or something of that type, then a Notes document database will do the trick.

What may also need ot be done is to educate the users into understanding that the exact function that they used to have is no longer in available however, a new function can be offered that does xxxxx. Often you'll find that they will jump at the chance of using 'new' functionality if it is sold to them correctly.

Good Luck in the 'presentation'

Thank you, PeteH2. Have a star!
We were stuck "thinking inside the box" since we don't use databases much yet.
We're testing this solution even as I write. It might not resolve all issues, but it is much better than what we had before.

Would there be a variation on the solution that allows routing in a line rather than a circle? That is, it does not end up back at the originator?

Yes, routing of the document to specific individuals or groups can be done, but it's not the type of thing that is easily set up by beginners to Notes document databases; it will require probably some programming: LotusScript or Java.
