I have a few public folders in my Exchange 5.5 site that are not really there. I think they were created when there was more than one site. I am unable to take ownership or remove them because they are not really accessible.

How do I find and remove them....?

MESSAGE IN OUTLOOK
Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could not access the specified folder location. The contents of this public folder are currently unavailable. Either the Microsoft Exchange Server computer servicing this public folder is down or the public folder has not been replicated to this site. See your administrator

If you are refering to the root folder e.g. Internet Newsgroups then Microsoft know about this problem. They say to make sure you have the latest service pack and the fix for exchange administrator is admin.exe version 5.05.2431.0.

Copy out the folders you want to keep then stop information store and rename the pub.edb to pub.old. Then start the information store. It will create a new blank pub.edb if information store won't start run isinteg -patch. then restart it

Then copy back in the good folders

you should be able to take ownership of them if you have the admin id you can go in and give yourself the proper rights to the folders, I had the same thing happen where the last admin had given themselves rights and when they left I was unabelt go in and make any changes but was able to give myself ownership rights to the folders and can now administer them.
