Missing Programming Options

A few days ago, I logged into a Compact system, equipped with fairly new software, using the config password. I wanted to change the APPEAR AND RING options on two stations. However, when I "showed" a station (any station!) I found that there was no appearance and ring options under LINES. There were only four stations on the system, so I decided to do a total system reconfiguration, but someone had changed the STARTUP password. The password change I understand. I don't have a RAD so I'm stuck on this issue. But the "missing" programming item(s) is a new one on me. So my question is; is the config login the highest level of (field) access to the system? And if you're in under the config login, can you program certain items/options to not be available? Any thoughts or guidance would be appreciated.

Config is highest meant for techs and Admin is lowest meant for onsite admins.
To login into programming on Norstar is 266344 but the password you then enter determines which one you will be given access too Configuration or Administration because its a different password for each.

A lot of vendors will change the config password anyway for security reasons (nosey users or admins or other vendors etc).

I know for the nosey ones I used to make the Admin password what the Config default password was to fool them, maybe you have been fooled.
The STARTUP password is the same as the Config password so that maybe the case.

Something tells me you are a vendor or admin and labelled yourself wrong?.

In the FAQ's sections is a way to try and default the systems as well using the date change or call in a tech.

I'm NOT a vendor.... just a (frustrated) tech. None of my usual go-to technical references/sources recognized the "missing" software item(s) issue. I thought I'd give this a try. FYI.... I tried shorting the cap (try anything once!!) but that doesn't reset the STARTUP password. I'll keep nibbling at this as I get the time, and post results if/when I get them. Thanks to all for your input.

It sounds like maybe this is DR5 software, when you say Compcat do you mean CICS or 3x8?

Per exsmogger shorting the CAP will actually default ALL programming including the passwords. Once you do that there is no need to do a STARTUP.
The date will go to January 1 when it boots.

3X8 6X16 and 8X24 and Early release of MICS/CICS?:
266344 to enter Configuration and its password
23646 to enter Administration and its password
Both above have their own different password (not allowed posting passwords in forums)

MICS and CICS later software's:
266344 to enter both Administration or Configuration
Depending which password you enter depends what you will see.
Passwords would be the same as the older stuff.

I am positive your Config password was changed to the Admin password.

Some vendors can crack them for a smallish fee too if cap or FAQ's does not help..

I'm sure one of these proposed solutions will work. When/If I get a chance to re-visit this issue, I'll share whatever it is that I've found out about it. Again, thank you to all for your help.

Curlycord; thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately, I've slept since then this particular job, and the specifics of the system have gotten mixed up with all the other stuff that I've worked on since then. I don't want to provide the wrong information, so when I get a chance to get back to this, I'll make note of the pertinent info and answer hawks question then.
