I received this message on a custum built pc. I took the hard drive out and put it into a Compaq and it boots just fine. Yet when I moved it back to the original pc it gets the NTLDR message. The custom pc was originaly having mobo problems, so I put in a new ecs k7s5a mobo and it stated giving me this message.I took the hard drive out and put it into a working pc to make sure it was still OK. I had to run some repair programs from the wk2 cd, but in the end it worked, but after I moved it to the old pc and new motherboard the message returned. Anyone no why?

One more item. I have swapped a hd with W2k to the custom built pc and I don't get the NTLDR message, but it just sits after the POST. The message" Searching for Boot record from IDE-0..OK is the last thing showed. I also swapped a hd with Xp pro and the exact same thing happens. Could some other piece of hardware be broken... CPU maybe?

From what I understand, I would check the BIOS settings for the harddrive. Try AUTO detect first and re-boot, if that doesn't work try using the Detect HD option that is in most BIOS's I've seen.

Also, I've had some probs when the hd has the CS jumper selected instead of Master, or the other way round. If the BIOS changes don't help, try the same options with the jumper set differently.

I got a similar error once....There were bad sectors on the RAM i was using in the PC. I would also get strange errors when trying to install the operating system.

I guess it's worth a try

Hey this may sound funny butmake sure u dont have anything in your floppy drive or cd rom drive... hehehe That happened to me once (( I know... duh! ))

I'm going to have to go with trevthetec on this one. Check your jumper settings. I have a hard drive that if u put the jumper on master with slave, but no slave drive on that IDE channel it stops right after the Post Screen, (where you get the NTLDR missing message) but it also has a jumper setting for just master with no slave. If you set it to this it works fine with no problems.

If this is the master drive (assume that because you moved it and could boot) check for a simple error that will kill you. Make sure the drive is on the END of the drive cable, AND the jumper is set to MASTER only (if it is the only HD on the cable)and you are using the right drive cable slot (Primary) on the motherboard. Then make sure the CMOS settings for the drive are on AUTO (probably set correctly because you are seeing enough of the drive to begin to boot)
