I had a server crash on a remote site running SQL and I have managed to get most of the server restored, however some of the db files are missing , the important one for me are there but the SQL services fail to run becase the master.mdf file is missing.

I found a program called 'rebuildm.exe' which looks like it can recreate a new configuration file from there I hope to be able to attach the restored db's I have but I am unsure if this is the correct way to do it as it states that it will wipe any existing db's, does this mean the already configured ones or my actually db files?

Any pointers?

Thanks

Jon

Make sure you have backups of all the database files. You won't know whether any are ok until you attach them.

I would reinstall sql server then attach the databases. In fact I would reinstall the OS first to be on the safe side.

If you want to rebuilding master should create it from scratch but it's safer to reinstall everything.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
