I'm trying to automate backups through the SSMS using Maintenance Plans. However when i click on Management i get SQL Server Logs, Activity Monitor, Distributed Transaction Coord and Legacy as options whereas I am expecting Managemnt Plans and then have a wizard or new option. Under Legacy there is an entry of Database Maintenance Plans but if i right click that I only get View History or Refresh.

I may well be doing something particuarly dumb but would appreciate advice.

thanks

mike

What version of SSMS you use?
With Express edition you can't set Maintenance plans.

I've run a query on the SSMS and it is telling me i have the standard edition but is it posssible that management plans could have been disabled at installation? It was me who did the installation so i certainly didn't mean to not install them.

thanks

mike

The query returns version of the SQL Server not the SSMS.
Check HELP About in SSMS.

I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio version 9.00.1399.00 but can't see how to tell if that is express or not. Do you know?

Thanks again

mike

Not sure, but I think that is either SSMSE either some of the CTP releases of SSMS.
I google what I think off, but I can't found the versions of SSMS to track them.

Mine is: 9.00.3042.00
