I have installed everything with Red Hat Linux 7, which includes mysql-3.23.24-1. I continually get the error mysqld: Can't find file: './mysql/host.frm' (errno: 13) in my 'hostname'.err file each time I attempt to start mysqld. I am able to run BINDIR/safe_mysqld as either root or mysql (a user I created that has the same privileges as root).
I have already attempted everything the documentation stated. I have dropped and recreated the mysql database as root with the ./bin/mysql_install_db script. I then would "flush privileges" to be certain that everything was updated. I have added passwords to root and/or mysql and that did not resolve the problem. I have used the BINDIR/msyql_fix_privilege_tables script without errors (or should I say errors that are able to be "ignored" according to the script).
