Every time I open a particular file (that was converted from Pagemaker 7.0) I get a missing font message. But when I try to do a Change All, it won't let me. It simply stays on the list as a missing font, even when I select a replacement. Any ideas?

I'm working with InDesign CS2 on a PC.

Did you check all your style sheets to make sure it wasn't defined there?

It is not in any of the style sheets--I just checked again. Any other ideas?

You didn't say what the font is and if it's really missing on the machine.

Sometimes you get the missing font warning due to the default font used in either indesign or pagemaker. They tend to include the default, even though you didn't use it. In some cases it's just a font mapping problem.

I assume you used find/change to try to correct. You might try preflighting. Then use find font in preflight to correct.

The font missing is Switzerland Roman, and it is missing from the machine. It was originally also missing Switzerland Bold, and I was able to do a Change All for that with no problem, replacing it with Arial Bold. I tried fixing the problem in Preflight, attempting to change Switzerland Roman to Arial Regular, but even when I go through the Find/Change, it doesn't get rid of the error. The default font is Times. I'm still not sure what to do.

I have seen this many times. The font probably doesn't exist in the document and will not cause problems printing, creating ps files etc. To make absolutely sure the font doesn't reside, zoom in on your document and then try to find the font. If the screen doesn't move to where the font is located, then the font doesn't exist. It's annoying, I know, but treat it as what I call "a phantom phont".

Sometimes this message appears if you have used a font in some artwork (ie: Illustrator file) that was never converted to paths. Unfortunately, if you don't have the original art to fix, I don't believe there's anything you can do about it.
