Missing Files

I recently copied 12GB's of files from another computer
into my hard drive (by putting my hard drive into his
computer as the slave device). After the file copying, I
noted that the created folder with all these files was
there in the C:\ drive and was full. When I put the HD
back in my computer, the files were nowhere to be found
(through searching too), yet the space was taken. The HD
properties says that the drive is 44GB full, yet when I
select all the files on C:, it says that they add up to
only 32GB. Searching for any of the files is also
fruitless. Any help to allow me to access the files or just clear the whole area would be appreciated

What file system - FAT or NTFS? Does a CHKDSK or SCANDISK run clean?
