I have installed Win98 on a machine and I recieve a message before boot up saying that a device file used to run Windows in missing. The file is called z:vvinesd.386. I installed Win98 SE thinking it was a bad install, however I still get this message. Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Go to start/run and type Sysedit.

Go to the System.ini window, go down to the [386enh] section and look for this "Banyan Vines" driver...either put a semicolon ";" at the beginning of the line or simply delete it.

You should also make sure there are no lines in the autoexec.bat of similar nature.

Also, chekc your Network Properties and make sure you don't have the Banyan Vines client listed..if so, remove it.
