I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on why a fields data may be browse-able in field explorer but when placed in the report it does not populate? Im using XI v2 if that makes any difference.

Browsing a field in CR does not apply any filters. If you have some sort of record (group) selection for the report, then you may not see values in the report. It is the only thing I can think could be happening.

nope, only sorting on one field and thats not it. nothing fancy in the report (no subreports, formulas etc) and it is a table not a view/virtual table. could it still have something to do with linking?

Definitely a possibility, if the field is part of a linked table, but none of the records from the parent table match, then there would not be an value.

Maybe you have an incorrect join--matching the wrong fields? Maybe check the fields you are linking by adding each table to a new report and placing the linking field in the detail section to see how it appears. Then compare to see if they can match.

If that were the case, wouldn't the information be blank in the field explorer?

When you are browsing fields you are browsing values that are in the table, not only the values resulting after linking. Did you try my suggestion?

If the values can match, then the other thing you should try is changing the link to a left outer join--try it two ways, changing the table that is the lead table on the left outer join, and then see if you get some values returned.

OK, i did put the table - alone - in a new report and it does populate. i tried linking a couple different ways and i still dont get any values, some of the link configurations just wipe out the report.
I always thought that if they were visible after linking then they were somewhat linked correctly, otherwise the values would be blank...

The point is to look at the field you want to link on from each table to see if they appear the same in the report--if they don't, they should not be linked. Or you would have to adapt one to allow linking.

I am using the primary key to link the tables, that is what is confusing to me. i will keep messing with it.
