Please help...
I have been told that I cannot just recover a dll or an exe file from a backup (or the Microsoft web site), load it, and register it separately in Windows 2000 - that if I want it, I would have to re-install the entire operating system.
Please set me straight - is this right? (please say no)
If I can recover just one & register it - how do I do it?
I knew in 97, but I've heard things are different in Windows 2000.
Thanks so much!

First try sfc. Go to START>RUN and type sfc /scanonce
and hit enter. Now reboot. You must reboot right after word. You will need your win2K CD handy. Let me know if it fixes your issue. James Collins

NO :)

or
you could locate the DLL if you know the name.
Find it on the installation CD copy it into probably
winnt\system32 or wherever.

Then run regsvr32 xxx.dll to reregister the dll

Butchrecon,

Sorry quoting from Sherry's post - should have used quotes !!

"Please set me straight - is this right? (please say no)"

Wasn't implying using system file checker wasn't also an option. With communication skills like mine no wonder I'm not in management !!! :)

Cheers
