Call Gateway technical support. They've told me they'll help do total System restores for 25 years after date of purchase. They will not support the software as to usage though. Tell them you just need help with a system restore. You must be armed the model and serial number available and the orginal purchasers name used at purchase and battle the phone prompts untill you get throu. Get the tech's ID number before you start.

You would need to restore the Default Settings when in the CMOS Setup, then exit the BIOS saving changes.

You can try sysing your HDD by restarting with a Win98 Styartup disk in the [A] drive and starting with CDROM support; At the [A] prompt type, sys c:, and strike the Enter key. Restart by holding down Ctrl + Alt + Delete.

2 things :

i) start your computer & as it is starting press 'Delete' key to enter the BIOS.

There go into the option to auto detect the hard drive. just click yes to everything once it is detected. Press escape to come out of Auto detect. and then save and exit from BIOS.

ii) If nothing was deteceted then the chances are that u have open your computer that the data cable from your hard drive to mother board has become loose or detached. so push it back in.

If none of that works, then i'm guessing either your hard drive is knackered or it's something i don't know about.

Re: Gateway computers and BIOS

The Gateway computers I have worked on did NOT respond to
the standard DEL option.
They used F10, F1 or the ESC key to enter the BIOS.

ALSO,,,,, Ulysses, to you have a Windows BOOT DISK ?

What happens when you put the disk in the floppy and boot
to that BOOT DISK ?
Can you then go to C:\ DRIVE ? (or do you get a message that says invalid drive,,,,, etc ?

Can you read the C: DRIVE ?

> **** Do you understand about "BOOT ORDER" ? (and how this is set up in the BIOS ?)

That is enough questions for now.
