Hey,

Iam installing a used MICS with 6.0. When the system boots there are no errors but the system does not see tne NAM (voicemail). Voicemail seems to boot ok and there are two red zeros in the LED's.

I have tried F910 to F945 and F980 to F999 and only get "invlaid feature" This is a fiber NAM attached to the only 6 port fiber card. If I go to maint. and check modules the system sees everything except the NAM. I checked the fiber cable and it seemed ok, but i changed it anyway to no avail.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i forgot to note that the sticker on the NAM says:

Rel 2 10/07/97 VM 3.0 mod 2 MS

I think you need to upgrade the NAM software to at least 4.0 and better to 4.1

You need a backpack, keycode, software and about $1000.

With MICS R6.0 the NAM needs to be at R4.1. I would suggest sending it out to be upgraded. A reasonable cost should be around $500 from most repair houses.

Will it run on MICS 4.0?

how difficult is it to downgrade an MICS to a previous version from 6.0?

I tried to go back to the software that came with the system (MICS XC 1.1 V12.2 - NT7B72FD 93) and all I get are blinking arrows, the system just won't boot with the old software in it.

Would it be easier to downgrade to 3.0 or even 2.0?

I have changed some of the cards i.e., I have removed a T1 card.

Thanks again!!!!!!!!!

You can go backwards in the following manner.

1. If you can back it up first in case you have to go back up - perhaps print out config and admin configuration;

2. pwr down. Then do a start up. 2 seconds after start up begins to apply the template, unplug the KSU.

3. Change the software cartrige and plug back in. You may repeat the process as often as it takes.

4. When old software boots back up, start programing :)

i have tried this about 10 times. how many times might it take?

This works. The trick is in the timing. Try shortening the time rather than lenthening it.

is it 2 seconds from the time the arrows start to blink?

is three minutes long enough to wait for it to boot to the old software?

i tried this about 20 times, waiting about three to five minutes for the system to boot with the old software but to no avail.

To clarify, I shut the system down.

turn it back on with the 6.0 cart aand pcmcia card intact.

one second after the arrows start to blink i shut it down again

remove the 6.0 cart and replace with the 1.1 cart.

turn the system back on and pray...

NO,

WHat you need to do is boot the system fully with the 6.0 software.

Then, within the first 15 minutes of a successful startup, after you are a working system again, do a Feature ** startup

When it says to reset memory, say yes.

The system will begin to clear everything and THEN after a few seconds during this process, pull the plug, swap the cartridge and reboot. The system will recognise that it was in the middle of a cold start and will use the new (old) software.

However, I gotta tell you, you are far better served upgrading the nam which you can do yourself with a backpack, software and keycode.

Good luck

OR,

You can send it to me to upgrade cause I have the tools. You can email me at harry@mserve.com for details.
