Scenario :

I have a mirrored lv which I split to backup.

When I finish and want to resync the lv will the process resync the entire lv or just the areas that have changed?

I think what happens is that when the LVM writes to the 'live' LV it marks the PPs 'stale' or 'out of sync' when it accesses them. This way it only resyncs the written-to PPs.

I'm not sure about this but that the idea I have.

Cheers

hi,

As morsing as mentioned when you split your LV , it marks the PP's stale that make up the LV so if your LV consists of
20 PPs when split , it will mark those 20 PP's stale and then resync the stale PP's back i.e. the 20 when it resyncs

When you do a splitlv command, there is no "sync/stale" issue, the split LV is a completely different LV and no longer has any mirror relationship to the original. You have to delete it, and do a new "mklvcopy" and "resynvvg -l" to restablish the mirror.

(Yes, I have a system I do this on)
