Hi,
I have a Sun 420R. It came from the factory with the OS being mirrored on two drives as md devices.

My question is, how do I setup a new machine similarly? Im assuming there must be some special hardware involved in order for the mirrored drives to be bootable??

Thanks!

If your machine is running Solaris 8, then you must use DiskSuite 4.2.1.

The DiskSuite software is on the Solaris 8 CD (2 of 2), do a find for SUNWmdu, and then add the packages.

SUNWmdu Solstice DiskSuite Commands
SUNWmdr Solstice DiskSuite Drivers
SUNWmdx Solstice DiskSuite Drivers(64-bit)
SUNWmdg (optional) Solstice DiskSuite Tool
SUNWmdnr (optional) Solstice DiskSuite Log Daemon Configuration Files
SUNWmdnu (optional) Solstice DiskSuite Log Daemon

For Solaris 2.6 & 7 you can use DiskSuite 4.2, this too must be on the Solaris CD somewhere,
you need the following packages.

SUNWmd (required) Base Product
SUNWmdg (optional) GUI package
SUNWmdn (optional) SNMP log daemon package

Steve

I think DiskSuit 4.2 was a seperate package under Solaris 2.5.1. (and sold seperately)
I don/t know about 2.6 but I think for Solaris 7 that DiskSuit was a part of a package called Easy Access Server.
