Hi all,

We've got an E2K server which we want to mirror at our disaster rcovery site. We've got a lan extension to the site (10mbit).
Where on earth do I start with this? Should I cluster?

Thanks.

Question:

If you've got a LAN extension into your DR site, how far away is it? I ask because most sites using that sort of connection would be in pretty close proximity, and both sites may not survive a natural disaster.

We then get into issues of how much redundancy do you really need, and how much time can you afford to get your systems running again. This is very important to figure out if you have not already.

The subject of DR is huge, and I could write pages and pages on it and still not address all your options.

If you've got a huge budget for this (if you really have a far-away site with such a fast link, it would suggest you do), bring in somebody like Sungard to help you construct a disaster recovery plan. If you don't have a huge budget, the quick answer is to set up off-site storage for your backup tapes and have an off-site server configured and ready to recieve said backups. If you're not really talking DR, but just failover redundancy, I'd suggest just having a local cluster with a shared raid array.

Of course that's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

Forget about the DR plan, there's already one in place.
I just want to know how to mirror the servers over the link.

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, that sounded rude, I really didn't mean it to....
