We are having difficulties getting Mint to run under Windows 98. We have not clearly identified the source of the problem, but are working on it. Right now, it seems that the combination of Win98 and Internet Explorer 5 make the TW driver go psyco.

The most obvious symptom is that Mint trashes the .ini file.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?
I have spoken to one of our PC people who have worked with Mint over the past few years and this was his reply:
"The problem appears to be that in Winsock 2.0, which is part of the Windows 98 / Internet Explorer 5.0 combo, support for Winsock 1.0, which is what the telnet3.dll file requires. This is a known issue, and is why Brisbane told
me last year when Cyprus raised the issue, MINT was not supported any longer."

Please contact me if you require further information.

Regards
 Shona Jutronich
 Application Programmer, Mincom, Denver.

yes, we worked out that you could sort of get around the problem my making the ini file read only, then adding the transport driver you wanted to use to the execution line for Mint.
I believe it is all to do with a new version of Winsock in IE5. It seems a factory build of a Toshiba notebook with IE5 works, but if you install an OS with IE4, then upgrade to IE5, you are in all sorts of problems.
I don't believe that this can't be fixed though. It seems it must be more finanially beneficial for the programmers to say it cant be fixed and make you choose a more expensive option.. or have it's corporate customers stay using an out of date browser than get with the program and make their 'free' terminal emulator universal.
