Currently i am running Win2K3 with Exchange 2003, and all 200 users only using OWA. Is there any way to purge all of the deleted items out of the OWA users delted items after a set period of time? The way it stands now user can 1000 messages in their deleted items can if the would like.

What's the reason for purging them? With Deleted Items retention, this allows the users to recover items they accidentally delete.

Obviously, if you set your deleted items retention to being something relatively small, then the issue will take care of itself. I believe the default though is seven days.

You need to create a policy in mailbox mananger (in ESM). You can set apolicy to automatically purge items over a certain age in just the deleted items folder. Just make sure you are careful to specifu ONLY the deleted items folder.

When all else fails, read the book!

Sorry...misread the OP. Fuego007's advice is proper.

You should probably advise your users before doing that however. I know some users use the deleted items folder to store emails (don't ask me why).

It keeps things tidy I'm told Dave. Same reason they keep their desktops tidy by storing files in the Recycle Bin.

Those are the people that keep us employed...

Or my favorite...keeping documents that should be on the network in the "My Documants" folder [cannon] [cry]

I had a user who CC'd himself on every email he sent so he had a copy :)
