Minolta Scan Dual - dark transparency scans

I have a Minolta Dimage scan dual which scans negatives (colour and B/W) ok but produces very dark transparency scans. Have not used transparency scan for some time but as I remember it was OK when new. System is recent W2K build and all drivers have been updated. Same problem on old W95SE. Is it possible scanner has a fault - not sure what is common between pos and neg scans.

Any help appreciated.
