I have passed the ccna and am preparing ccnp lab. Then I will proceed to CCIE ofcourse.
Advice me to create mini ccnp home lab with cisco routers and switches.

THings are changing alot right now. THe CCNP still uses the Cat5K for the setbased command questions but, the CCIE is going to a 3550 switch instead of the Cat5K. The CCIE will have a heavier weight towards voice over IP and other newer technologies then before. No TokenRing for example. So that means the 3900 Token Ring switch is not needed anymore for a CCIE lab. It also means that you can buy TR routers for CHEAP if you need serial ports for the lab.

The Cat5K or the baby brothers to it are still very useful and I would recommend something set based. The 2900s are the workhorse and you need to know them well. The 2620/2621 give dual Fastethernet which will trunk and that is needed. But if you can find it, a 1721 will trunk also but only 802.1q. Not the 1720, 1721 only. You will need something as a frame switch. I use a 4500 with a quad card but I got a good deal on it.

Plan on some type of terminal server. I use an *old* 500-CS which works fine and is half the price of the newer 2509 and the like. But no serial port.
