I feel foolish for not finding this answer myself, but none of my Word 2000 documents have the minimize or resize buttons - and only some (haven't yet figured out why) have the close button. I can close a document from the File menu, but can't find any way to minimize or resize docs within Word. I must be missing something pretty obvious!

Your not going crazy. If you look at your task bar you will notice that each time you open a new document it appears as though a new word session is opening. However instead of being able to minimize the document itself Microsoft thought it would be easier to run the documents off the task bar. It does not open new word sessions but can get very annoying when you have a few documents open and a couple of applications and now you can't see anything on the task bar.
I have been looking for a way to turn that 'feature' off but have been informed that it can not be turned off.
I agree with oneworld. It is a pain....
That's one of the reasons why I started playing around with Star Office. If it is totally compatible, no one at the office ever has to know.

This has been on my research list as well (I do all the software support for my company). So let me understand this...now that Word minimizes the documents in the taskbar, the minimize button is not necessary? Does Word actually minimize the open document if you open another doc before closing the current one? By the way, I also have many things open at once, but I can always see everything in the task bar, although the buttons start to get very small after a while.
