Yes, the wm iconify command minimizes a toplevel window. In contract, wm withdraw completely removes a window from the screen, without any indication of it in the status bar (Windows) or without any desktop icon (Unix). wm deiconify redisplays a window, no matter whether the window was iconified or withdrawn. - Ken Jones, President
