I have a Mavica 300, it records on Mini CD-Rs. I recently finished a CD-R and tried to write a date on the back of the black finish, but I must have scratched the back a little with the White Pen I used to label the Mini Disc. Now my CD ROM won't read it. I have about 200 pictures on it. Is there anything I can do to get it to recognize the Mini CD-R and salvage the pictures.

There are several different things you could try. Here are some of them:

1. Start your computer with a boot disk that has CD-ROM support and see if you could read all the files through the DOS interface/ If it see all the files, you could simply copy them into a directory on your hard drive.

2. If DOS doesn't read the disc properly, you will want to try some disc maintenance. Clean the CD with a soft, lint free cloth to remove anything that would be obstructing it from reading properly. You could even use some of those Disc Cleaning/Scratch Removal Kits to see if that will help it.

3. Try make sure the lens inside the CD-ROM drive is as clean as possible. Also try the disc in other computers to see if it reads all the files.

Can you still look at the pictures when you put the mini-disc back in your camera? I don't know how your specific camera works, but with others that I have used, you have to do something to the disc, kind of like closing the cd, before it will read in the computer. Just a thought. good luck!

Make sure the cd-rom drive door is fully closed and retry the process. If that doesn't work, retry the process.
