Hi all,

For those using Access with ODBC to extract data from MIMS, have you experienced problems with maintaining the ODBC connection? MS-Access 2000 is locking up after I make an ODBC cxion to MIMS 4.3 using an Oracle 8 32-bit driver, after a period which seems more or less random in length, but usually greater than 10 minutes or so. Access stops responding and has to be terminated. Have tried suppressing every refresh-type option in Access to no avail.

MIMSVu works fine using the same Oracle ODBC driver. Am using the MIMSVu account to draw data down to Access.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? It's fairly important, as we're trying to do reporting and apps development in Access as a value adding exercise.

TIA,
Sean

Hi,

I have been told by our Oracle & Access specialists that the solution to your problem is to use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver (available as part of Windows) rather then the Oracle ODBC driver. They have experienced the same problem in a non-MIMS context and that solved it.

This is not a MIMS problem but an Access problem, so you may get further help and info by posting in the Access forum

We would be interested to find out the exact version of your Oracle Server as well as the exact version of the current Oracle ODBC driver you are using.
Hope that helped
