MIME & DIME

Hello to all, i am newbie in the Web Services and i have some questions. I know that if i want to transfer data like images or videos from the Server to Client i have to use MIME or DIME, but i can unterstand what exactly is MIME-DIME. Please if anyone can explain it to. Also i know that DIME is like MIME but better, if i use in my Service DIME i will have any incompatibility?
