Is anyone here from the Milwaukee area? I need some advice on career paths, employment, and education.

Hi, and welcome. I'm in Scotland myself, but Forum1064 might be useful to you. Good luck.

Hi - I am from Milwaukee, but, believe it or not, I work about 160 miles Northwest of Milwaukee.

I could not find any jobs in the Milwaukee area since 2002.

So, I consulted at a Company from March, 3003 to October, 2004. When my assignment ended - they offered my a full time position there - great pay and benefits. So I took it.

I have 25+ years of IT, and have a well-rounded set of experiences. I am OK with current technology, but not a SME in any current technology. Since I have 25+ years, I am probably on the high-end of salary and positions - thus the reason I may find problems.

What is your expertise - I could probably suggest some companies to look into.

I'm in the Dells, and have had difficulty finding employment, too. This seems to be a pretty low-tech area, and the computer skills sought by any area companies looking for IS/IT people are NOT offered in any local educational institutions. I've been programming since 1991, and right now do web programming for a couple places in Ohio I did work for before moving up here. I have some programming classes under my belt and a good deal of experience, but no degree at this time.

I have some VB6, much HTML and Javascript, C/C++ (learned it in DOS days), hardware and software troubleshooting, PHP experience, very little database and just a little .NET I've picked up on my own. Any ideas about this area?

Actually, I just landed a job today in Oconomowoc. I'm pretty much entry level, and getting my foot in the door has been next to impossible. I finally did it, so I'm going to try to keep as long as I can! Thanks for the replies, and best of wishes to you all!

Depending on where you are in relation to the Dells, I know the Madison market is one of the hottest in the State.

To the north, you could look in Wisconsin Rapids or Stevens Point.

Hope that helps.
