Mileage Calculation Program or Code 1

I have a legacy application we designed to calculate distance based on odometer readings before and after a trip. It does a lot of other things but this feature I would like to enhance.

How easy is it to incorporate some type of spacial database or widget into an application so I can calculate distance based on two addresses? I am sure things have evolved since we designed this 10 years ago.

You could look into calling an API like Google. They may offer something like that for you, however I am not sure.
I know where we work, the DB guys use SqlServer 2008. They use the Geography data type to hold lats and longs and calculate distance using those.

It has been a while since I have been in the forum here. I actually stopped being lazy and did some googling myself and found a lot of results. Now my new issue is choosing. Thanks for the quick response.
