Only the long way.
You can use the .DAT files from 2.1 but the code will have to be re-written. There is such big differences that there really is no easy way.
Settle your mind on a re-write and take the time to refresh the program design. This will give you the opportunity to either reduce the app to its useful core or expand it to add that new functionality that you have always wanted to.
