Anyone migrated from HMC 6.1.x (Websm based) to HMC 7 R3.1.0
(browser based) ?
Is the product "mature" ?

Hi there,

I'm not sure if it's "mature" or not, but a few month ago we asked IBM whether it is advisable to migrate to HMC 7 or not and they told us, that generally HMC 7 is only making sense for Power 6 environments ...

Regards
Thomas

Not only that, for power6, it is the only HMC version that is valid.

POWER Code Matrix at shows for power6:

The only valid combination is: System firmware Release 310 with HMC Version 7 Release 3.1.0

Sooner or later we'll all have to upgrade beyond HMC V6. But I'm waiting for HMC V7 to get past it's teething troubles...

One good part already is that remote managing will become less cumbersome. The websm pc_client will be a thing of the past...

HTH,

I've been running Version 7 Release 3.1.0 on two HMC's both connected to two p570's for about two months.
The only thing which disturbs me is that the restart of the rmc-daemons on a running lpar sometimes seems to cut the rmc-connection between the lpar and the HMC, resulting in the loss of dlpar-capability (due to no connection). Rebooting the HMC resolves the problem ...

ok thank you for this tip
the last avaialable fixe for 7.r3.1.0 did not resolve the problem ?
