We are migrating our users to exchange 2003 from a netscape pop3 mail server. I need to move my users in phases. I am having an issue that maybe someone can help give me the answer to.

When I migrate to the exchange server and try to send mail to users that are still on the old server they will not recieve the email because the message never leaves the exchange server. I know why this is happening but not sure what a work around would be.

The issue is because of the address being the same. Example.
New Domain name abc.com New exchange server addresses *@abc.com - Old pop3 server addresses *@abc.com

So if I am on the new mail server and I email joe@abc.com it sits there for delivery to the exchange mailbox and does not leave the exchange server and route tot the old pop3 server.

Any suggestions would be great.

May have found the resolution. Set the POP3 account as default in the outlook client and this will send the outbound email through the POP3 server to be delivered.

In the SMTP Virtual Server properties, Messages tab, enter the POP3 server name in the bottom box. Anything that doesn't resolve locally will get forwarded to that server.
