I'm an MS Access developer faced with a client who has a project they manage with a sizable Paradox 5 database (I'm guessing 300 to 400 hours of development time).

They need some modifications that aren't very substantial, and I told them it probably wouldn't take much time for me to get up to speed for them.

The application is in Paradox 5.

Two questions:

(1) Should the database be migrated to the most recent version of Paradox? If not, why not?

(2) And a related question, in reading the white paper on converting Paradox 5 to Paradox 9 it says "The purpose of this document is to assist a Paradox for Windows user upgrade all their files into Paradox 9. The main restriction is that the forms, reports, scripts and libraries which are delivered will not migrate to Paradox 9."

What does that mean? I find it hard to believe that the forms, reports, and scripts can't be migrated at all. But I can't figure out what else it might mean. Help!!

The link for the whitepaper is here:

Thanks for any clarification. -- Herb

1.) Paradox 10 is 32Bit, Paradox 5 was 16 Bit. So depending on the windows Version you should upgrade or not.

2.) What's to be upgraded? Just al *.?sl-Files, So all forms, reports, scripts and libraries have to be recompiled.
If you work with the paradox runtime you hvae to deliver all forms, reports, scripts and libraries with the new version and install the new runtime version on all your clients.
You just pay the devloper version one time (So you buy the Corel Wordperfect Officce 2002 Professional one time) and you might install paradox runtime at as many pc's as you want.
