We are thinking of moving from MS Exchange server and MS Outlook. How feasible is this ? Are there nice little migration tools to help or it is lots of elbow grease ?

Thanks in anticipation of any advice.

Speaking from recent experience, the migration from Exchange to Notes is quite painful. Not only that, Outlook and Exchange (assuming 2000 or up) is much friendlier, easier to use, and a whole lot easier to administer.

There are Migration tools available in Notes. We have aquired some companies that use exchange, and we simply converted ABs and left the old exchange DBs locally for acrhive purposes.

We then utilized the new AB with clean Notes client installs. This worked well and allowed the users a fresh start.

I posted the tools and some links on this site before. If you can't find them, let me know and I will dig them up.

I am not going to totally disagree with the last response, the conversion isn't simple. But most companies that convert move to Domino in order to obtain more power, decrease virus outbreaks, and provide a more stable email platform.

We use Domino and Notes throughout 38 Countries, and each smaller office running Exchange is starting to migrate one by one. Just an opinion. Let me know and GL.

Thank you both very much for the advice. At the moment it's just corporate think so I thought I'd get ahead of the game a bit. Saying that tomorrow is another day so who know's what bright idea's they will have then.

Thanks once again.

Take a look at the Binary Tree migration tools, they are better than the ones that are supplied in Notes. (The website is - please note that I don't work for Binary Tree!
I've done a few migrations using the Binary Tree CMT and it works great. You can centrally manage the migration, inc time migrations, etc. There is obviously a cost per client(I can't remember how much) but it is money well spent. You can also download a five user eval so you can take a look before you buy.
As regard the point about Exchange and Outook, remember that Domino/Notes is Mail plus lots lots more so it's not really fair to compare the two products.
The way to win over the users from Outlook is to produce a few 'quick win' apps in Notes, then they start to see the real benefit of using Domino/Notes/
