Migration from AIX 4.3.2 tp AIX 4.33

I have to install an image (mksysb) AIX 4.3.2 on a 44p/170 with GXT 4500
The mkysysb is from 43p/150
Do I have to upgrade the System to 4.3.3 or are ther any Patches for Aix4.3.2 for GXT 4500 ??
In Case of Upgradeing to AIX 4.3.3 , can you give me some hints how to do it

mksysb is intended to recover same system (or at least same hardware)

clean install works better

although IBM makes a maintenance package for upgrades from 4.3.any to 4.3.3

there is 2 ways you can do the upgrade
1. get hold of the aix 433 cd's from ibm do an update all on the old workstation p150 then do a mksysb and then restore on new p170 machine.
2.restore the mksysb to p150 and download the gxt4500 fileset from ibm.
i recommend option 1.

If you have get the update CD it will be latest CD from AIX that has latest AIX 4.3.3 code and it will also have filesets for GXT4500 graphics adapter in it.

As it helped to me : press reset (Yellow Button) few times and firmware may boot some sort of AIX - most likely from hdisk0 - at least worth trying - as it could not get worse - and once you booted some sort of AIX (or diag CD) you can flash your firmware or even get some network connectivity from your server

Do you have a fileset for GXT4500 for AIX 4.3.2 level. If AIX 4.3.2 does not have fileset for GXT4500 and you are in USA. Then call 1-800-879-2755 option 2 option 2.
This is the number at IBM software distribution and Deliveries. They will ask for machine and model type and serial number and they will look at machine history to see what kind of software you have paid for and what software you are entitle to.
If you have upgrade protection then they will give you latest level of AIX 433.

There is also Refresh media of AIX 433. IBM release AIX 433 and 51 after this release IBM release any new hardware(disk, scsi, SSA, network, adapter or any hardware) the required filesets are inclueded in the REFRESH of AIX 433 and REFRESH of AIX 51.

This should also be available from IBM in each country.

I have updated first firmare of 43p/150
then smitty update_all with AIX 433 IBM CD´s
439 filestes were updated STATUS SUCESS all comited
aber reboot sys hangs on SMS , last display Value is c31 , also tried reset button few time . stillsame
then tried bosboot -a -d /dev/hdisk0 -> Same game
any Idea ??

C31 is trying to find console.

When it says C31, go to console and press

0 (zero) then ENTER
1 then ENTER
2 then ENTER
etc

One of those (probably 0 + ENTER) will set that terminal as your console. AIX sends a different number to each terminal attached, and usually you can see it, something like "Press 1 and ENTER to make this the system console". Hope that works, it's been a while since I had to do that.

My guess is that you are using the GXT4500 card and monitor for the console?
Perhaps the drivers are not loaded or the special cable for the GXT4500 is not in use? My guess is that the filesets are not loaded...Perhaps you can use an ascii console
to see where you are. The GXT4500 requires Maintenance level 10 for drivers...
You could order a refresh from IBM to make sure you have the drivers...

the C31 means it cannot find the console......... and if the console is the new device
and device driver...it may not see it.

I have tried to update an different Client, with smitty update_all in Maintaince mode, and installed AIX ML 10 and GXT4500 drivers and some other patches and it worked fine but only oslevel says 4.3.2.0
all filestes says 4.3.3xx

oslevel may not indicate 4.3.3.0
The oslevel command may not correctly output 4.3.3.0 on systems installed or
updated from the AIX 4.3.3 product media for the following reasons.

The level of the ifor_ls.compat.cli fileset on the AIX product media is at
the 4.3.2.0 level. This problem can be corrected by installing the
ifor_ls.compat.cli 4.3.3.0 update (PTF U466561), which is available from
FixDist. This problem does not occur when updating from the 4.3.3.0
Maintenance Level.

The bos.perf.pmr fileset is down level after updating from the AIX 4.3.3
product media. This occurs only when updating AIX 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 systems,
which already have the bos.perf.pmr fileset installed. The bos.perf.pmr
fileset is obsolete in AIX 4.3.3 and should be removed.

The bos.crypto* and sysmgt.security* filesets are not included in
the AIX 4.3.3.0 Maintenance Level since they contain encryption code
that is subject to export restrictions. Updates to these filesets are
available only on the AIX 4.3.3 Bonus Pack that is shipped with AIX 4.3.3.
