Migrating Windows 2000 to 2003

I have a Windows 2000 SBS running Exchange Server and BES. There is also a standard Windows 2003 Server running on the domain.

I have installed a Windows 2003 SBS with a new domain since you can't have two coexist at the same time.

I THINK I followed the Migration instructions but am getting a "Could not verify auditing and TcpipClientSupport on domains. Will not be able to migrate Sid's. The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." message when attempting to migrate users from the SBS 2000 server.

When I try using the 2003 server which is also a DC in the other domain I get "Unable to establish a session with the password export server. The source serer does not have the password migration component installed."

I've setup encryption between the two SBS servers, set the TcpipClientSupport Registry Entry on the source server, and a few other things that are a blur now.

Any ideas or suggestions? Since I have accounts and Exchange mailboxes on the SBS and shared folders on the other 2003 server I really want to migrate the sids.

Thanks for any help on this!

Brian

I would promote your 2003 server to a DC in the old domain. Then take a look at

I've looked at that. However, I actually wanted to setup a new domain because the old domain configuration was so badly done. As a result, the Microsoft method SEEMED just fine for me. Other than the minor fact it appears not to work :(.

I'd actually like to do the ADMT migration but have looked at swingmigration or one of their offerings as a solution.

However, has anyone here gone through the Microsoft recommended process and managed to succeed at it?
