Hello ,
I have a Dell 6300 with PREC2/DC raidcard .
The OS is NT4 server.
I want to migrate data included the LUN of raid to SAN .
First , I ghosted the old lun included C:\ with the way of partition to partition copy to SAN LUN .
I made the LUN of SAN active with "fdisk" .
Then ,I removed all of the drives on the raidcard and tuned the BIOS to make the HBA bootable .
When I reboot , it stoped runing after the BIOS process and have not bootloader loaded yet .
On the other words , it seems hangged on the point of the time of loading boot.ini .

I tried newly installing also .
But I can not detect any LUNs I've assigned from storage when running the NT4 installation CD after I loaded the correct HBA driver .

Is there any better way for migrating in the case ?
If not , how can I newly install NT4 on my SAN disk ?

Thank you all !

ok firstly i assume that you are going to have the disks that host the os in the physical server - preferrable raid1

then you will use whatever multipath software you have for the san and through the san software you will configure the disks in the san and allocate a lun no and then allow access to the shared storage. nt should then see the disks - you will need to configure secure paths or such like if you have multi fibres/controllers etc or you will see ghost representations of your storage space

afraid i'm only use to compaq/hp sans with hsg and predominately on netware - have one 2000 box on it

what type of san is it?

I'm sorry that I am not familiar with NT4 unlike Win2K .
But I've used the same way for migrating data to SAN on Win2K successfully .
If you experience such like this case regardless which type of server or storage you used ,please kindly instruct me to solve this trouble .
We've mapped the WWPN between storage and NT server ,so it shouldn't have troubles on multi-path .
Our storage is HDS9980V with the director of Mcdata 6140 .

Thanks for your reply !
