hi

when trying to open a pst file, i get the following errors:

"properties for this information service must be defined before use"

when i hit ok on that i get:

"errors have been detected in abc.pst, quit all mail enabled applications, and then use the inbox repair tool"

has anyone seen these errors before? if so, how do i fix it?

thnx

The inbox repair tool is scanpst.exe

Though to migrate a pst, you should set up outlook as normal, open folder, point to the required pst, and then copy the relevant items across into the new default message store.

I had a problem recently with a pst that wasn't password protected until Imoved it, and Outlook assigned it a password. I then had to buy a tool to decode the password

i ran the pst repair tool, and I can now open the pst, albeit it has a LOT of garbage in it now (about 10-20 folders labled recvoverd folder, and each one has 1-4 items in it).

guess that is as good as it is going to get.

thnx

PST files have a limit of 2GB. If they go above that then the PST file corrupts and you need to run the SCANPST.EXE tool to retireve the data as it clears out the file to bring it under the 2GB limit. Yep that's as good as it will get.

my pst file was only 750 MB, so that wasn't the problem.

thanks for the info though

We have found that thePST files have a tendencey to corrupt after 750 MEGS regardless of MS saying 2G limitation. Anyone else have this issue?

Only as far as 650MB, but I'll watch out
Cheers

I have many users that are well above 1GB. They normally run into issues when they reach about 1.8GB as they get an error when trying to move messages into the PST that may take it to or over the 3GB limit.

I have ran into this several times. My PST files have exceeded 1.5GB and as small as 400MB when running into the problem. Most of the issues I had surrounded saving file attachments within the messages. I found by saving my attachments separately and keeping the pst files cleaner has help. I run scanpst once a month or so to keep the file clean from errors. I also create a new pst file each year, one for business and one for personal.

Message for PaulTEG,

I had the same problme moving a PST, afterwards it had a password. What tool did you use and where did you get it from?

thanks for your help,

Google for the Advanced Outlook Password Recovery Kit, can't remember the site, and the executable was left on a client site

Sorry can't be of more help
