Hi all,

I have been tasked with migrating mailboxes from 5.5 to 2003. The difference here is that the NT domain is not to be migrated yet.

I have read up and see I can use a resource domain where I create duplicate accounts in the target domain with identical SIDS to the source domain.

The problem I have is the mail migration bit. I am being told the only way to move these emails from 5.5 to my new mailboxes in 2003 is using exmerge. Obviously this will export/import emails but my 1400 users also have rules etc.

My Question is:

Can the Exchange 2003 mailbox migration wizard be used in this scenario or does it rely on the migration of the domain also?
I see it will create accounts; does this mean that the duplicated accounts I create will cause problems?

Has anyone ever done this as a half way house to the full migration of 5.5 into 2003?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is always a solution, somewhere...

Investigate Quest Exchange migration tools.

They cost a lot but they do all the heavy lifting for you, sync calendars and allow you to do a rolling migration.
