We have 2 groupwise 5.5 servers. One server only has 5 people on it and the other has 100. We would like to move these 5 people off the server onto the other one. The server with 5 people is the primary server.

I need to know what I need to do in order to move these accounts to the other server. We wish to de-commision that other machine.

Any help would be appreciated or links to documentation.

Are you wanting to run all PO's, the Primary Domain, and any Gateways off of just one server?

Hi, thanks for responding. Yes, we want to completely decomission the other server, it only has 5 email accounts on it.

are the servers in same tree
ie 1 groupwise system or 2 ?

i f one just move the people to the different po then delete the old one

if different tree etc then archive there mail - create them on new system and the fid them

Hi, yes they are in the same tree (under the root object). I'm just realizing that the server we want to decomission has the GWIA and the webmail. Whats the best way to move all this stuff?? Sorry, it's like asking alot I know.

ahhh

what mta does this server have on it
make sure it's not the primary

the gwia - quicker just to reinstall the gwia as it's going to come off the other domain now
it's just a directory under the domain any - can be moved easy as long as you check startup file but quicker just to reinstall it - take a few minutes

webmail - apache?
again it's quick just to reinsatll this onto new server

I myself would not run all services (PO's, Domain(s), WebAccess (if used), MTA and GWIA) on one server. Novell in earlier sizing documents regarding GW 5.5.x suggested against this also. Here is a link to such a sizing recommendation document. Good Luck!

i agree my way of thinking is you must always have 2 domains minimum for a system

the primary domain shouldnt have any post offices on it

the mta poa can sit happily on one server - i always like to have the gwia away from these incase of rogue messages causing issues

Folks,

I moved my first mailbox to the other server. The move appeared instantaneous and the user shows up under the other PO. My thinking is that it is not instantaneous and I probably need to check the status of the move. If this is correct, where should I be looking?

thanks again.

as long as system is clean and you make sure you are connected to correct domain then moves go no probs

the main mistake people make is - if the move fails then they start making more changes
if you have a prob and have a pending op then dont make another cahnge

take a note of person's user db
when you do the move - it should dissapear from the post office dir and then appear in the other post office dir
it can happen that you end up with two but this is the first place to check
