Dear all,

Hope that anyone out can please help.
Currently my email server is hosted by an external provider in US. We would like to setup an inhouse mail server. Now the questions are as follows :-

1. How am I going to point the MX record to my inhouse mail server, if I am going to retain the domain name? My company is located in Singapore.

2. Is there any recommendation on how to go about it, in a least disruption to the existing network?

3. My broadband ADSL is currently using dynamic IP. Must I change to static IP?

Appreciate if anyone can respond to my query.
Thanks in advance.

For the least disruption, firstly you could do to have a backup MX record that will spool mail if the primary MX is down. Secondly, have the TTL reduced on the domain to something like 900 (15 mins) a few days before the migration. This will ensure that other DNS servers will not hold cache records for too long and will be forced to flush the records and look up the domain on the authorative server. You can then have the MX record changed to point to your in-house mail server and it will propagate very quickly around the world.

Good luck.

Chris.
