I have a rather difficult one here; I have a client who has an old 2003 SMB server with two hard disks: C has the OS partition and Echange server installed, D has their primary accounting system installed. We're migrating to a new server they've purchased with no OS and two SATA drives they want in a RAID1 config. I'm assuming I'll just migrate the server 2003 over and set up a software RAID, but how do I handle the fact that the system has two Hard Drives?

Thanks in advance.

Partition the new drives to mimic the old environment.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

If the hardware supports a hardware RAID use that instead of the software RAID. A hardware RAID will give you better performance than a software RAID. If the onboard controller doesn't support hardware RAID, I'd recommend buying one that does.

Good advice Denny, I totally agree.

I hope you find this post helpful.

I like mark's idea. A raid 1 mirror with 2 partitions.

(Part1) = (Part1)
(Part2) (Part2)

drive1 drive2

Ok, so I like to make text pictures. :)
