Hi,

I tried the Apache forum with no luck.

Background: I'm in an unfamiliar city, with too few resources, armed with only an old laptop (Win98SE), and I need to complete a webdev contract :/

Target platform: Sun Cobalt, Apache, Chilisoft ASP, mySQL

Dev platform: Win98 ... lol :D

I'm very concerned about any slight differences between Microsoft & Chilisoft interpreters: If I develop the project on Win98/PWS, am I going to encounter problems when I upload it to Apache/Chilisoft?

Are there any alternatives to PWS? I looked at Chilisoft ASP but the current version requires WinNT 5.x

Please share your experiences and tips on this matter. Thanks very much for your time,

- Glen :)

Personally I never used Chillisoft ASP, though common sense tells me 3 things:

- check for unsupported features, then avoid them.
- *nix filesystem is a bit different than FAT or NTFS. For starters, there are no drive letters
- Apache/*nix handle permissions ol'-fashioned way. Not much of a problem once you get used to it... unless you have to work with paranoid admin (03:00AM: "... Er, I can't edit .htaccess, can you run that chmod/chown thing please?")

heisenbug: A bug that disappears or alters its behavior when one attempts to probe or isolate it
schroedinbug: A bug that doesn't appear until someone reads source code and realizes it never should have worked, at which point the program promptly stops working for everybody until fixed.

Also be careful about what ActiveX/COM objects you use, they may or may not have implementations of these on your target platform.

The first thing I would do is try to get my hands on the ChiliSoft docs. Second I would look for a FAQ for developers that are converting code to run on ChiliSoft.
