Happy Monday all!

I'm getting ready to migrate our exchange server to new hardware. This server is also our 'primary' DNS and AD server.

We plan on moving everything currently on this box to new hardware. I'm having problems testing this, however, as every time I create a single-label domain in my test environment, it fails to register in DNS correctly, which makes it basically impossible to test moving thing between boxes!

What I'm thinking about doing today to test is just creating a 'regular' domain to test moving information to the new domain. I'm thinking that since our current domain is registered correctly, it should move the same as a multi-label one. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm just looking for any input from people who might have done this sort of thing before. Any problems that have come up from moving everything to a 'correctly formatted' domain? Any special considerations I need to be aware of? I'm currently trying to convince my higher-ups that I need to run exchange separately from AD, but let's not plan on that at the moment...it took me almost 3 weeks to get them to drop the single-label domain name!

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I just went from win2k/ad/ex2k on one box to a win2k3 ad + ex2k3 environment wit ha single name domain.

I thought long and hard about renaming the domain but decided against it for now. I might try it once I get rid of all of my legacy hardware/win2k servers.

Sniper;

single lable domain = (domain) instead of (domain.com) or (domain.local)

And yes, I am aware that the DC should NOT be an exchange server. That's another battle with the powers that be, and right now just getting exchange onto new hardware is #1 priority.
