Hi there, i'm migrating from my ISP's mail server to my own mail server installed with Sendmail. The problem here is with the non-migrated users. In both servers the domain configured is 123.com, and when one migrated(in new server)user try to send a mail to a non-migrated user(in the old server), my new server responds "User Unknown". That's obvious because the non-migrated user is not created yet. In Lotus Domino, there is a "if the user is not in the local directory, send the mail to this relay server:" field. You put your old server in this field, and the problem is solved." .

My answer is: there is a way, in sendmail, to configure that all mails destined to a user that is not in the local directory, but has the same domain, be redirected to a specific server?.

Thanks in advance.

Luciano.

You should have an "aliases" file in our mail folder (/etc/mail, for example)
In that file, you'd have to add individual entries for those whose mail account is on a different server.

Example:
Code:
# Domain specific aliases

joe: joe@server1.123.com
mary: mary@server1.123.com
jill: jill@server1.123.com
Once they are migrated to your new server (and have a local account), just remove their entry.

Any changes to this file need to be follwed by the "newaliases" command.

"Proof that there is intelligent life in Oregon. Well, Life anyway.

That's exactly what i thought, but the old server is administrated by mi ISP, apparently supports several domains in it and the FQDN is not server.123.com but server.abc.com, and my users, for example joe@server.abc.com is not recognized as a user and the answer is "relaying denied".

Thanks, it will be very very appreciated if you have any other idea.

Luciano.
