We are migrating hundreds of users from Avaya Octel to Callpilot. Which is the easiest way to disable Message waiting light so that users wont see the light indicator coming from Octel when we cut it over to Callpilot? Say someone left a voicemail to extension 1111 on Octel then turns the message light ON. Then we cut it over to Callpilot, the following day user at extension 1111 check messages but since it was from Octel they wont be able to hear message and they may complain that the light is on but no new messages. This is the scenario that i want to prevent. Currently what i am planning is to disable the message light on Octel before cut over but we are talking about hundreds here.

Thoughts?

Doesn't the Octel have ports that use MIK and MCK keys? If so, change those ports and remove those keys.

Do you have the space and hardware to keep both systems running for a week or so at the same time? In past change outs like this at several locations, we have offered the users access in to the old system by way of a new access number to allow them to pick up old messages, then putting the new system on to the existing voice mail number. They need to be told it is short term and they need to clear it out asap. You are always going to have stragglers who were travelling/on vacation/etc who cannot get to their old Vmails in time before the swap. Then after a week, you can shut it down. This also gives you the chance to go back to your old vmail in case the installation blows up in your face.

Planning, planning, planning... Send an e-mail to all users to clear out their mailbox by a specific date. Any Important messages should be off loaded to an external device. Cutover your Call Pilot and be done. Any lights can be cleared with a MCK key on your switchroom set or the Operator can do it. Don't drag this install out.

Reverse the MIK & MCK keys on your Octel Ports in the PBX, then login the octel and in menu 13 (or 15 can't remember) there is a Refresh MWI, run that, and it will turn off all lamps associated with the Octel.

Do not do this until your ready to take the octel out of service.

On the Octel system modify the user settings so that the MWI goes to a dummy phone.

eg

M U S

3011,1234,10,Name Here

Where 3011 is extension
1234 is extension you want to light
10 is Class of Service
Name is self exp..

That is assuming a phased cutover.

Big hit. Take MIK out of the TN programming of the Octel ports.
