Hi Guys,

Here is the Scenario :-

5 Servers running W2K

PDC, BDC & Mail Server (Exchange 5.5) running NT 4.0

Plan to upgrade NT 4.0 Servers and create native mode domain with AD.

I have a new server with W2K3 and Exchange 2K3. I plan to migrate from 5.5 to 2K3 but want to know whether to put it on the same domain or create a new domain with AD and a trust relationship.

I was told that if you have to rebuild your mail server you cannot re-add it to the domain easily so it is better to put it on a seperate domain.

Please advise what you think is best.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Hi, Daniel101
Since our office has seldom colleague. So my migration/upgarde is arhive all use mail to *.pst and stored in there PC. After migration to exchange2k3 user account, then push user *.pst to mail server.
Those steps are dull, but 100% functino-able

Same domain.

As long as it isn't a DC there shouldn't be too much trouble adding it back in. Most of the Exchange config is held in AD rather than on the Exchange box itself, unlike 5.5.

Haven't tried it personally though, have done a 2nd XC server but not first one installed, your mileage may vary as they say.

Tidying up after a dead DC can be a pain by all accounts.

From my experience you can setup exchange 2003 on a system with being apart of a domain. I actually had to do somehthing is didn't want to do, and make the exchange box a independent domain controller.
