I am about to migrate a 1000 Server IBM xseries network from Director Version 3.1.1 to 4.1.2 I am moving Director to a dedicated server and will not upgrade the original server. I would like to be able to migrate the configuration as I have approximately 50 static groups and also rack manager has been configured for each area.

Is it possible to back up the 3.1.1 configuration and restore it to a 4.1.2 Server ??

Any help on this would be appreciated

The short answer is "yes". The right answer, since it sounds like you know what you want and don't want to screw it up, is to call IBM. The IBM Director Support Team can guide you down the right (albeit not short) path to successfully migrate your existing v3.1.1 configuration to a new v4.12 server in the least painful way. You can reach them via (800)IBM-SERV, Option 2 for software support. It's not free, but it's worth the fee to not have to recover from a failed attempt, and try again (You would likely have to spend the money for recovery, so spend it wisely, and proactively). Also, IBM has several excellent RedBooks on the subject. You can get them from: Just search for "IBM Director".
