Hello-

I would like to migrate 150 mailboxes from an Exchange 2003 server to an Exchange 2007 mailserver. There are many caveats here I assume since the Exch2k3 server exists in one physical building and the exch2k7 mailserver in another. The 2 disparate buildings are connected via a good working vpn tunnel and all the users will end up moving to the new building in 2 weeks or so.

I've read about CCR in reference to Exchange 2007 and am going to test ADMT for migrating the users from source (old building) to target (new dwelling) but have never migrated email accounts before. Is there a specific Exchange admt tool, perhaps using the Transporter Suite if it's worthy of anything? This has probably been discussed on these forums before so I don't expect any elaborate details here as I am sure there are many, if anyone can just please point me in the right direction -URL links, white papers, cheat sheets so that I can dig into the information needed, I would truly appreciate it very much.

All the best!

Hi blade,

Geography is immaterial really.
Need to know whether the mail servers are in the same Exchange organisation or not.

If not is there a forest trust between the two orgs?

Neill

Hi ntinlin,

there is no trust at the moment, I will create a two way external forest trust on Monday though between the two orgs.

So from that standpoint, if there is any additional info in order to get my wheels spinning please let me know.

eitherway, I appreciate any info at all on this rather involved topic

thanks

Is Exchange installed yet on the target? If not, or if it can be removed and put in again once the trust is established, you can install to same org and then just migrate.

Hi Zelandakh,

It is installed on the new Target forest yes. Could I not just create the trust at this stage without having to remove it and such.

If I can create this trust (with Exchange already installed as is) then what implications would you think I'd face in doing a migration. I realize that I'd be migrating across two external forests.. would that scenario work Zelandakh?

Just curious if I can get around removing exchange and just creating a trust from that standpoint.

thanks for any additional info.

Moving mailboxes in the same org is point and click. Cross forest migrations...erm...not my area.
