Hi all,

Is it possible to just copy all Oracle database-related file from one UNIX platform to another (eg. Solaris to HP-UX) without using the exp/imp method of migration? This assumes that both platforms use similar versions of Oracle.

Cheers,
Ben

No - filesystems will be different, therefore the data files will be different

export / import is the only way although maybe you can do something with rman (any experts on rman out there ?)

Hi,
Your only safe bet is to use export/import. Copying files from one machine to the other may work, but if you experience problems they may be difficult to trace
